SSWM Training in Baghdad (April, 2019)

cewas Middle East, the Swiss-based organisation promoting sustainable practices in water and sanitation, and BORDA, the Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association, with the support of the WASH cluster Iraq, are pleased to announce the second round of a 5-day training course in Sustainable Sanitation and Water Management (SSWM) in Baghdad, Iraq.

The Sustainable Sanitation and Water Management Training course is ideal for professionals working as: technical staff of Municipalities and governmental offices, Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society groups dealing with water management and sanitation issues, engineers and practitioners from the private sector, local and international service providers, University professors, students and researchers, members of local and international NGOs and entrepreneurs working in the water and sanitation sector.

Resource Recovery and Reuse (RRR) Entrepreneurship

In collaboration with An-Najah National University, we have the pleasure to offer an exclusive opportunity for lecturers from engineering and business departments to get to know the course and offer a course to students in January 2019 in Nablus. The overall aim is to introduce lecturers to the course and support them in using the course material with their students. The offer thus includes a one-day introduction for lecturers and a 4-days course for students.

The course “Resource Recovery and Reuse (RRR) Entrepreneurship” will enable engineering students to:

  • Identify business opportunities for resource recovery and reuse across the waste and sanitation sectors,
  • Develop a RRR business model,
  • Study the feasibility of RRR business models by analysing legal, institutional, technological, logistical, health and financial aspects and related risks,
  • Define market positioning and financing for the implementation of RRR business models.

The course was developed by researchers at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and business development experts at cewas (coaching entrepreneurs in water and sanitation). The modules draw on innovative business models examples from the IWMI publication Resource Recovery from Waste. Business Models for Energy, Nutrient and Water Reuse in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.  The focus is on organic municipal, agro-industrial and food waste, wastewater and faecal sludge, supporting a diverse range of business models with potential for large-scale out- and up-scaling.

SSWM ToT Lebanon 2018

The University of Balamand, Issam Fares Faculty of Technology and cewas Middle East, the international centre for water management services, are proud to offer a 3-day Workshop in Sanitation Systems and Technologies based on the Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies of the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag). The compendium appeared for the first time in 2008, offering a systematic overview on different sanitation systems and technologies, and describing a wide range of available tried and tested sanitation technologies. This structured source of information has become a key and useful planning tool for making more informed decisions in the sanitation sector and is also available in French and Arabic.

The ToT Workshop on Sanitation Systems and Technologies has been conceived based on the Sustainable Sanitation and Water Management (SSWM) training, which has been successfully taken by more than 650 participants in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, including the Middle East. The training builds on the SSWM Toolbox (www.sswm.info) that provides practitioners with tools for the planning and implementation of sustainable sanitation systems at local level.

Practical Project Design in Sustainable Sanitation and Water Management, Lebanon

cewas Middle East and LEWAP are proud to offer the Workshop in “Practical Project Design in SSWM”, ideal for official of water authorities, representatives of municipalities, local and international NGOs staff members, civil society groups, SMEs, practitioners and consultants, as well as individuals, who seek to improve their skills in project design in Sustainable Sanitation. This workshop is designed as a hands-on training, as participants, with the support of experts, will be developing smart solutions for sustainable sanitation.

Innovation in SSWM, Lebanon 2018

cewas Middle East, in collaboration with pS-Eau, is offering the 4-day Workshop in “Innovation in Sustainable Sanitation and Water Management, SSWM”. The workshop aims at providing its participants with innovative opportunities in the water and sanitation sector, which would consequently activate a change in the service provision of sustainable sanitation and water supply in Lebanon. The workshop is funded by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development.

The goal of the Sustainable Sanitation and Water Management Training is to activate a change in the planning, design, implementation and maintenance of sustainable sanitation systems, water and resource management at local level, through a holistic approach of resource management and a participatory approach. Communications and Media Training on Water

Seecon, MiCT and BORDA are holding a training called ‘Communications and Media Training on Water in the Middle East Region: Write Your Water Story training in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Kurdistan Region‘ that will give the opportunity for passionate writers to develop their writing skills in conflict journalism. Participants will have the chance to submit their papers and win the Water Open Eye Award and a prize of 1,000 USD.

SSWM in Fragile Contexts Training, Jordan

Aimed at strengthening the capacity of (Syrian) key WASH organizations in the provision of basic sanitation and resource management with a special focus on emergency response, this training provides the theoretical knowledge about the topic for its participants and provides them with a list of possible sanitation and water management solutions for different scenarios. The training is supported by GIZ Jordan (Project: Rehabilitation of the Water and Sanitation Infrastructure – South Syria) and offered in collaboration with GTO (German Toilet Organization).

Sanitation Systems and Technology Workshop, Jordan

Based on the (Arabic/English) Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies, this workshop aims at empowering sanitation experts from the private sector and academia through knowledge exchange and supporting them in understanding, evaluating and up-taking new sanitation options to broaden their products and services portfolio. This workshop is co-financed by in-kind contribution from Jordan Engineers Association and University of Jordan.
