ABOUT US

This year, the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) West Asia and North Africa (WANA) Chapter and its partner the Bremen Overseas Reasearch & Development Association (BORDA), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is partnering with the Blue Peace Media Lab, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to explore new ways to encourage media enthusiasts to engage in investigative reporting on pressing water and sanitation issues across countries in the region.

To launch the programme in Iraq, outstanding media enthusiasts and professionals will be selected to take part in a tailored programme with the goal of intensifying and improving the quality and scope of media coverage of acute water-related challenges in the country.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The programme accommodates up to 12 media enthusiasts (e.g. journalists, columnists, bloggers, radio and tv content developers, etc.), from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

To launch the program, they will gather in a 2-day training session in Erbil (including field visit) to learn and exchange about the contribution of journalists in presenting – in a constructive manner – the challenges of the water and sanitation sector, while empowering the public, as well as decision makers, about possible solutions.

After the 2-day training, participants will be exposed to various key water and sanitation events, including a Water, Sanitation and Waste Hackathon, an evening talk on Innovation in the Water and Sanitation sector in KRI, and a Sustainable Sanitation and Water Management Training. On Tuesday 17th of September, participants will have the opportunity to present their projects at the WeTalk event in Erbil and compete for the best media piece to win “The Open Eye Award, KRI 2019”, noted at 800 USD.
